What's new

The following new content and functionality were added to Thomson Pharma on 1st April:

  • The latest report in Thomson Pharma, the Target Report, is now available, enabling users to view information on over 1900 known drug targets. For this first release, the report contains two Portlets; the Summary Portlet and the Drug Interactions Portlet. The Summary Portlet contains information about the target in question. The data populating this field is still being mapped to the target content and additional information will be added to these records over the coming months. The Drug Interactions Portlet allows users to navigate quickly and easily to drugs that specifically act on that target. To search by target, use the Quick Search function
  • If you have generated a large list of results, you can now quickly visualise and interpret these results using the new Rank By feature. At the click of a button you can rank your results by Company, Therapy Area, Drug Action or Drug Development Status, enabling you to quickly identify those reports most relevant to your work.
  • Enhanced linking and navigation--all bar charts and graphs are now fully linked within the company report.  This means you can streamline your searching and navigation by clicking on any of the charts and linking to a company's full patent portfolio, as well as all of their investigational drugs by therapeutic category or stage of development
  • In company reports, you can now monitor stock performance by rolling your mouse over the charted data. Simply click on Stock Performance in the left hand navigation tool bar on any company report.  This enables you to monitor stock closing prices and gather consensus recommendations on whether to buy, sell, or hold
  • A new field has been added to drug reports, showing all names associated with that drug. This enhances your ability to retrieve information and ensures you are monitoring all information surrounding a drug. The field includes all drug synonyms, trade names, research codes, USAN, INN's, and CAS registry numbers where available
  • You now have the ability to export a drug report into MS Word--helping you gather and enhance information according to your organization's needs.  This export capability is available within drug reports. Simply click on the export button in the top navigation bar.  Look for more capabilities in the export area over the coming months

Hints & tips

  • Passwords for Thomson Pharma must include both numbers and letters. This is to ensure you enjoy the utmost security when using Thomson Pharma. Please remember that you will have to reset your password once, at the initial login, before you receive your final username and password
  • Did you know you can increase the specificity of Quick Search by using various operators? % works as a wildcard and can be used at the beginning, middle or end of a word. This is particularly useful if you're not sure how what you're looking for is spelt and for getting around regional spelling differences. You can also use standard logic such as AND, OR and NOT as well as nested logic, e.g. “(Tarpan OR Channel) AND Therapeutics” to get at exactly what you need.
  • Did you know that when you enter a drug name in the Quick Search box, Thomson Pharma automatically searches synonyms, research codes, INN's, and trade names for that drug. This ensures you get all of the available search results
    • When entering a patent number in Quick Search, remember to use  the standard format: a  two letter country code, followed by a hyphen, followed by a patent number.  Exclude kind codes. For example: WO-09818323
  • If you want to conduct a more advanced search, then the Form Search function gives you extended and focused results sets, especially when you search using the indexing terms provided by our expert editorial staff
    • Example: Our indexing policy is geared towards ensuring there is an appropriate match between various indications and various actions, e.g.: hypertension and antihypertensive. This allows our customers, where the appropriate matching terms exist, to approach the same search from two different directions
